Ballintotas Alpacas is a working fibre farm. Our focus is to raise our alpacas in their natural environment in a manner that respects their autonomy. Visitors to the farm and store will notice our focus on the fibre and the amazing products produced with it.
This is our busiest product season of the year. We attend several off-farm shows where we showcase our products across the county. The barn is not open to tours, but the farm store is open regular hours throughout the fall and Christmas season.
The farm is closed to barn visitors during the winter, but the store can be accessed by appointment.
These months represent our harvest season during which time the barn is closed to visitors. In April we are busy getting the farm ready for the summer season and in May we are busy shearing our alpacas. The farm store is open by appointment.
Select dates are planned each of these months when visitors can learn about the process that turns our yearly fibre harvest into products, visit the barn to view the alpacas, and check out the farm store.
The goal for our farm is to ensure a high quality of life for our alpacas. We believe that this is best achieved by allowing them to be in their natural habitat doing what alpacas do naturally - grow their amazing fibre!
From June - September, we plan days at the beginning of each month when visitors can visit the barn and view the alpacas.
Start at the Farm Store to let us know you're here. From there, we'll visit the Fibre Studio to see how we skirt, sort, and select fibre for the various end-products available in our Farm Store. Bring your questions; we’ll chat all things fibre and alpacas. Then, follow the path to the barn where you can catch a glimpse of the alpacas. End back where you started, with time to browse the wide-variety of products available for purchase.
Please wear closed toed shoes.
Do not feed the alpacas unless food is provided by a Ballintotas Alpacas representative.
For some farm events, alpacas will be available up close and personal in the alpaca enclosure attached to the Fibre Studio.
There is no charge for a self-guided tour, but a donation can be made at the Fibre Studio.
