What does it mean to be a destination location? When vacationers began calling the farm to ‘book a tour’ and wondered ‘how much' we ‘charged for a tour,’ we were confused. But, we soon noticed something interesting: The visitors we were receiving shared something in common. They were ‘making a day’ of their visit.
Some visitors couldn’t say enough about their time at Tastefunatic Grassy Bay Getaway Bed and Breakfast near Calabogie, complete with donkey mascots, where they were drinking in the peace, tranquility, spa-like atmosphere and being treated to a truly delightful culinary experience with the hosts of the B&B.They were often staying at the Calabogie Peaks Resort, enjoying golfing, hiking, tennis, and time at the beach. Or, in the fall, taking a chairlift ride to watch the spectacular colours of the changing leaves. And, of course, in winter, taking in the skiing and snowboarding and chalet warmth!
For those adding shopping to their day, the Bittersweet Gallery at Fog Run Studio is a one stop shop for fine Canadian art and distinctive jewelry. Add to that the Artists Cove Gallery where a talented local group of artists share their watercolours and oils.
No trip to the area would be complete without dropping into Somethin’ Special for unique gifts and name brand women’s clothing.
Some clients combine a trip to shop our natural, organic alpaca wear with a day of relaxation and rejuvenation at Rua Healingworks and Wellness with Moira. Visiting alpacas and feeling their fibre can do a body good!
When I stopped to think about it, I wondered why I hadn’t seen it before! When you live in an area, you take it for granted. But, as I saw our local area - McNab, Burnstown and Calabogie - through the eyes of our visitors, I realized that we really were a destination!
The next time you’d like to escape the city, or if you live close by, re-discover the area, call ahead and plan a farm stop and shop on your daytrip to experience the country charm of the area!
